| AMA/GLMA Physician Survey Project  
Interested Participants Click Here In partnership with the American Medical Association (AMA), GLMA is surveying physicians to study physicians’ attitudes, knowledge and beliefs about lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) patients’ unique health care needs. This study is funded by a grant from the AMA to GLMA, which is administering the survey in partnership with the AMA Institute for Ethics. The AMA and GLMA share many common priorities and interests, including, the elimination of health care disparities for LGBTQ patients, assessing and improving physician competence in caring for LGBTQ patients, and ensuring non-discrimination against LGBTQ patients and physicians. Two national surveys will be conducted as part of the AMA/GLMA Physician Survey Project. One survey will be mailed by the AMA to a randomly selected sample of U.S. physicians – drawn from the AMA Masterfile – with the following specialties: family practice, internal medicine, adolescent medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and psychiatry. This survey will address physician experiences, practices, attitudes and training related to their GLBT patients and colleagues. The second survey will be disseminated to LGBT physicians by the GLMA and will address both their perceptions of discrimination against GLBT patients and healthcare professionals. Both surveys will be informed by a survey of LGBTQ physicians that GLMA conducted in 1994, Anti-Gay Discrimination in Medicine, and will permit GLMA and the AMA to compare experiences of GLBT physicians over a 15 year period. The results of the survey will provide knowledge the extent of discrimination against LGBT patients and healthcare providers, and will be helpful in developing strategies to better address LGBTQ healthcare disparities.
